So how long before the deluded talk of Warnock being their number one target?

That was a bit hasty!

Sunderland is a big club, why wouldn't Warnock leave a team in the top 2 to join such a massive club?

Well the fact that they are a massive club is the only reason anyone would join. They certainly have better attendances than City, but you wouldn’t leave a club second in the table with your own players to join a team in free fall that is filled with overpaid players brought in by other managers and huge expectations from the fans and board.

Any discussion of Neil taking the job would be ludicrous

He wants one more promotion and only has a few more years to achieve it. Sunderland is a nice long-term project for a manager; Cardiff short term and with aspirations of going up come next May.

I see McCoist's name featuring with the bookies, but I don't know though. I can remember his one foray into English football was with Sunderland, but he struggled at the top level. It was from there he went to Rangers and made his name.

Given the way his managerial career ended with the problems at Rangers, I would be surprised if he wanted to take on a basket case project like Sunderland.
