Neil Warnock has already held talks with the main players he wants to sign for Cardiff City this coming summer ready for the 2017-18 season.

At the moment Warnock is concentrating on landing a new striker to provide the goals for a play-off charge next season –

Warnock has put Southampton striker Sam Gallagher top of his list and has held personal talks with with Gallagher.

Gallagher won't be cheap and will cost Cardiff City a major part of Warnocks budget, but Warnock knows another striker is what is needed badly if City want promotion next season.

It was hoped that Idriss Saadi would be coming back and even be Cardiff City's third striker behind Kenneth Zohore and Warnocks new striker that will be announced very soon, but its believed Saadi has been told once again he will not be needed for next season.

Sam Gallagher is still only 21 years old and has made 18 appearances for Southampton scoring one goal.

Gallagher was then loaned out to Milton Keynes in 2015 and then to Blackburn Rovers in 2016.

Southampton are prepared to sell the striker, but he won't be cheap.

Can Cardiff City afford to buy him, thats the big question?

He would be an excellent acquisition but I had read Southampton wanted £7mil. Unless City are keeping their cards close to their chest when it comes to our transfer budget then we can't afford that and would need to hope there is some leeway on that figure or that it has been reported incorrectly.

I would love to see him sign for us this summer though

I think NW may have a few extra quid more than amount quoted whilst I believe it's not gonna be malky/ole budget.. I think warnock is saying 6-8mill playing down amounts given.. maybe tan has give 8-10mill.. who knows?!

But unless a deal can be reached... this deal is a no go.. I can't see Southampton accepting half now and half if we go up..

I have wondered if the amount available has been played down. That way you won't be overpriced for players and if you bring someone in early for a sizeable fee you can claim the money is gone and negotiate fees down.

Believe it when officially announced.

Smoke and mirrors can't see the Club paying £3 million plus for a player.

Unlikely if So'ton are looking to sell now. A moderate season on loan with City could knock back his value in 12 month's time.

Neil Warnock knows his budget and I don't think he would be talking to the player unless the money was there.

I thought u couldn't talk to a player unless an offer was accepted? (Unless out of contract/free agent)

You aren't supposed to but I think it's not something club's, or players, really adhere to

I don't think it's a problem if the club agrees to an approach. There is also probably something in players contracts about access as the contract winds down.
