OT - Hurling

on Tue May 23, 2017 8:14 am
I'd forgotten what a fantastic sport this is.  Watched Tipperary v Cork on Sunday on one of the BT or Eir Sport channels.  70 Minutes of non-stop, no holds barred action.  I'd love to have been able to pitch some of the prima donna play acting footballers into that game and see how they coped with proper physical contact.

Provided that a player has at least one foot on the ground, a player may make a shoulder to shoulder charge on an opponent: (a) who is in possession of the ball, or (b) who is playing the ball, or (c) when both players are moving in the direction of the ball to play it.

From what I saw, there is a fairly liberal interpretation of this rule by the officials and certainly no complaints from the players ......

Always looked a great game whenever I've managed to catch it but like ice hockey, it's near impossible to find regular coverage of it.

I can honestly say, I've never actually heard of Hurling before...the thing with sports with small balls/pucks - it's hard to see what going on!

Such a fast game, my girls play Gaelic football, as well as football, one of them plays camougie, which is women's hurling. Most of these players are carrying a hurl and hitting a slither from 2 or 3 years of age, it's just in their blood.
